This is to inform the general public that the College of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University Lokoja has commenced the sale of application forms (Full Time/Part Time) for its programmes under the Institute of Governance and Development Studies, for the 2022/2023 Academic session. The Institute of Governance and Development Studies is a multidisciplinary Institute established essentially to provide solutions through policy interventions, cutting-edge research and robust development programmes.

Admission Requirements;

  1. Ph.D Public Sector Management

The requirements for the PhD Public Sector Management will be 60 percent cumulative weighted average from the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration or any related higher degree qualification recognized by the Senate of Federal University Lokoja. However, the holder of the MBA and MPA with less than 60% average will be admitted for the MPhil/PhD programme. Holders of the Master of Peace and Conflict or Security Studies who meet the MPhil/PhD requirements will be considered for admission. Other applicants who hold the Master Degree who are adjudged admissible on the basis of their work experience and at the discretion of the Senate of Federal University Lokoja may be admitted to the MPhil/PhD programme. The MPhil will normally be taken in the first year of the programme and the doctorate will follow, after successful completion of the MPhil. Any Applicant who wishes to apply for the PhD in PSM but whose cumulative average weighted score is between 59.9 and 50 % in the Master’s degree must apply for the Master of Philosophy as a stand-alone programme first.

  1. Ph.D Parliamentary Administration

Candidates for the PhD Parliamentary Administration are expected to have M.Sc/MA Degree from Federal University Lokoja or any other recognized University. They are expected to have a minimum of two years post-qualification experience.

  1. Ph.D Legislative Studies

Candidates for the PhD Legislative Studies are expected to have M.Sc/MA Degree with 60% cumulative weighted average or its equivalent. The M.Sc. or MA must also be from a cognate discipline from Federal University Lokoja or any other recognised University.

  1. Ph.D Legislative Drafting

Candidates for the PhD Legislative Studies are expected to have M.Sc./MA Degree with 60% cumulative weighted average or its equivalent. The M.Sc. or MA must also be from a cognate discipline from Federal University Lokoja or any other recognised University.

  1. PhD in Election and Party Politics

Candidates for the PhD Election and Party Politics are expected to have M.Sc/MA Degree from Federal University Lokoja or any other recognised University. They are expected to have a minimum of two years post-qualification experience.

  1. Ph.D. Security and Strategic Studies

Candidates for the Ph.D. Security and Strategic Studies are expected to have M.Sc./MA Degree from Federal University Lokoja or any other recognised University. They are expected to have a minimum of two years post-qualification experience. Candidates with background in the military or any other para-military organisations are encouraged to apply.

DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

  1. Ph.D. Migration and Border Studies

The candidate must possess a Master degree in any of the Arts, Humanities, Education, Management and Social Sciences from a recognised University.

  1. PhD Climate Change Resilience and Sustainability (CCRS)

For the PhD. Programme, MSC/ M.Tech. with 3.50 CGPA is required. In addition, candidates must satisfy the matriculation requirements of the Department of Geography.

The prospective applicant must be a holder of Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree from Federal University, Lokoja or from any recognized University cutting across the faculties of Social and Management Sciences, Education, Medicine, Nursing, Engineering, Natural and Applied Sciences as well as Law at pass level.

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates for admission into PhD programmes shall have M.Sc./M.A Degree in a cognate discipline, obtained from Federal University Lokoja or any other recognized University. Candidates with non-cognate M.Sc./M.A Degree may at the discretion of the University, be admitted to the programme if they possess significant work experience in high-level leadership and organization management. In addition, applicants are required to possess credits in at least five (5) O’ level subjects including English Language and Mathematics obtained in not more than two (2) sittings.

Duration of Programmes

Full Time: Minimum of 3 years and maximum of 5 years.

Part-Time: Minimum of 5 years and maximum of 7 years.

     2.  Application Fee for PhD is Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000.00) only.

  1. The duration of the sale and submission of Application has been extended to Wednesday May 1st , 2024.
  2. An Applicant should ensure that he/she has the entry requirements for the programme applied for, plus five (5) O’ Level Credits including English Language and Mathematics as appropriate.
  3. Applicants for PhD programmes should ensure that transcripts of their academic records are sent to the Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University Lokoja. Note also, that, applicants for PhD programmes are to provide a short research proposal, which should include the title, statement of the problem and objectives, of not more than 350 words.
