Climate Change, Intersectionality and Education for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities for Nigeria

COLLEGE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA

FIRST NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Date: Monday 12th – Thursday 15th January, 2026

Theme: Climate Change, Intersectionality and Education for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities for Nigeria

Concept Note:

Climate change is real and one of the most significant challenges of our time. Nigeria is currently facing these challenges in the form of complex, direct, and indirect impacts, including drought, flooding, sea level rise, erosion, desertification, forced displacement, conflict, food insecurity, and negative health outcomes, among others, which cumulatively constitute barriers to climate action and economic growth. This poses significant challenges to Nigeria’s sustainable development, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities and intergroup relations. There is no doubt, however, that education plays a critical role in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.

To give academics, policy-makers, practitioners, and students a forum to discuss research findings, trade ideas, and offer solutions to society’s problems, the College of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University Lokoja, invites well-researched papers and submissions on any of the following or related sub-themes to be interrogated at its Maiden National Conference.
