The College was inaugurated on October 4, 2017, with the noble vision of delivering comprehensive and innovative postgraduate programmes. Its mission is to build highly skilled, globally competitive professionals through rigorous and quality training. In alignment with the University’s aspiration to be the foremost among Nigeria’s newly established Universities and to rank among Africa’s top ten Universities, the College has created a vibrant academic community that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, leadership, and integrity.

In our pursuit of excellence, we have continuously adapted, and evolved, especially in line with the vision of the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi, whose transformational leadership qualities remain the pride of our great University. We have reformed our processes to ensure efficient service delivery, introduced new programmes across diverse disciplines, and expanded collaborative/partnership networks both within Nigeria and internationally. It is worth highlighting the partnership between the Institute of Governance and Development Studies (IGDS) and National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja aimed at providing specialised doctoral degrees in different areas (such as Legislative Studies, Parliamentary Administration, Legislative Drafting, Election and Party Politics, Leadership and Development Studies, Leadership and Strategic Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Public Sector Management) and promoting impactful community engagement. Other Programmes outside the FUL/NILDS partnership include .Social Work, Border Management, Population and Climate Studies. There are efforts to foster similar collaborations with other institutions in Abuja and various parts of the country.

Moreover, we are committed to creating a conducive environment for our students and seasoned academics who teach, supervise, and advance scholarly pursuits. We recognise that postgraduate studies are a transformative journey that requires dedication, perseverance, and a thirst for knowledge. It is our mission to support and inspire our students at every stage of this journey, ensuring they acquire not only advanced expertise in their chosen fields but also the ethical and professional qualities necessary to contribute meaningfully to society. Our faculty members are passionate scholars and mentors, committed to guiding our postgraduate students towards achieving their academic and professional aspirations. Additionally, we are harnessing the power of technology to enrich the learning experience and to promote research that is both innovative and impactful.
